TPHS Arts Fest

The annual TPHS Arts Fest celebrated student achievement in the arts on May 18. 

The annual TPHS Arts Fest celebrated student achievement in the arts on May 18.

Students created works with a variety of media, ranging from composition pieces to clay structures to digital photography. The classes participating in the show included Painting, Drawing and Design, Sculpture, AP Drawing, AP 2D Design and AP 3D Art. 

At the showcase, ceramics covered one table, ranging from human figures to household objects.

Cindy Dudly (11), one of the featured sculptors, said she was assigned to create a human form.

“I made a person filled with tape and paper, mostly to grab people’s interest,” Dudley said. 

Another popular assignment was in AP 3D Design for Día de los Muertos. Students were assigned to create a figure to represent their interpretation of the holiday.

“I created a wire skeleton sculpture and painted it in pretty colors to help celebrate the event,” Brooke Bernat (12) said.

Greyson Rojo (12), a student in AP 3D Art, showcased work from his AP portfolio at the event. Students in AP 3D Art have the option to submit their art portfolio — a year-long work of 15 pieces answering a question or prompt — to the College Board for evaluation. Rojo’s portfolio focused on the theme of sustainability.

“My sustained investigation question was about sustainable fashion,” Rojo said. “A lot of these pieces — such as the zero-waste vest made from repurposed pants and recycled fabric — aim to explore that theme. When the piece needed texture, I used the scraps from the previous fabric to ensure that there was no waste, and the buttons themselves are also made out of pure wood.”
